Will People's Power Explode Govt's Nuclear Plans?

Russia termed commissioning of Koondankulam nuclear plant as an adverse struggle, but they took all safety measures, in view of the Fukushima accident in Japan. They also denied the possibility of the ongoing protests influencing Indo-Russian cooperation in future. Sergey V. Karmalito of Russian embassy said, "What is happening in Tamil Nadu is unfortunate. It looks like that the protests will shadow the commissioning of the plant which is going to happen in December." And further added, "Last month, we conducted the trial runs and checked all safety measures. It is not correct to compare the Fukushima plant with the one in Kudankulam because the reactor in Japan was constructed decades ago and the one in Tamil Nadu is one of the most powerful and modern reactors in the world."

B Gabriele, national convener of National Alliance of People's Movements said that most hazardous and upsetting was a report submitted to the Russian government of late which had for the first time admitted that the Russian technologies were awfully insecure. The Russian government as also Norway and Finland had admitted to the danger and were keen to shut down old reactors and stage out newer ones.
