Why do Indians Embrace Political Dynasties?

Indian politics and the parliament are full of relatives, from fathers-sons, fathers-daughters, wives, widows, in-laws, nephews and uncles etc. it’s all about family there in India and it’s here to stay. The list of political sons and daughters are endless in India including Priyanka Gandhi, Sameer Bhujbal, Nilesh Rane, Milind Deora, Priya Dutt, Varun Gandhi, Jyoti Mirdha, Deependra Hooda, Jayant Chaudhary, HD Kumaraswamy, Akhilesh Yadav, Adhikari Suvendu, Agatha Sangma, Supriya Sule, Sachin Pilot, Omar Abdullah, Yadavs, Scindias, Badals, Thakerays, Patnaiks, Reddys, Karunanidhi’s family and the Marans etc, the list never ends.

Why do we accept the political dynasties? According to an India RealTime article by Rupa Subramanya, internal party organization is a vital factor in determining whether a party becomes dynastic or not. The author quotes Pradeep Chhibber, a political science professor who argues that a self-perpetuating and oligarchic political party primarily promotes dynasticism, which can only be countered by independent and democratically accountable organizational structure, which most Indian political parties lack. Another prominent reason he points out is that voter mobilization through independent civil society bodies are largely absent in the country. Finally, the nature of campaign funding is said to be the major factor that nurtures dyansticism in India because the funds are collected and dispersed by central party officials and the local bodies have no role in it, which make the normal followers of a political party highly dependable on its central command.

1: My comments are : 1.Dynasty word is Indian Heritage. To preserve heritage is one of feudal character of Human society.Hence Dynasty rule is never shunned by people, rather it is accepted as routine mode in social life. 2. We are not born as self made nation, like UNITED STATES and other countries, with value system of equality by birth. We are essentially born people with inequalities inherited through birth. 3.The blood of Privileged class, may be through money or power, develop a 'FEUDAL' cell like RBC/WBC,which practically through regular impingements over body, turn individual with MONARCHIAL in approach and lead you to take public service as personal ownership and transfer it your kith and kin. Late MOTILAL NEHRU was a feudal/nawab/monarach of Indian politics. He prevailed over MYOPIC saint stature enjoying BAPU and got JAWAHAR inducted AS 'KING' of divided INDIA.Thus NEHRU dynasty was born.BAPU,so reverned RASTRAPITA was most undemocratic. He wilfully bypassed majority of CWC ,just to appease Motilal ,a person with affluent background. In fact this decision of BAPU should be remembered in HISTORY OF INDIA as BURIAL of democracy and ORIGIN of DYNASTY rule in INDIA.Since then this practice of dynasty as licensed right holder for power is ramphantly practicised.A Ray of hope was seen in BJP .After once in power, the BJP also suffered from this 'FEUDAL'virus.Presently, communists are least afflicted with this ailment.REMEMBER DYNASTY RULE MEANS DESTRUCTION OF PEOPLE'S INTERESTS,and progressive anihilation of DEMOCRACY

you are absolutely right. i completly agree with you. In democracy leaders should get elected. the tradition of appointing heirs was started by the father of the state M.K. Gandhi. secondly he forced Subhash Chandra Bose to resign and thus started the tradtion of kicking out challengers and complete obedience to the High Command.

3: In our sub continent people have tendency of politics of personalty rather than politics of policy...

4: It is the tendency of people who are "judgmental". Preconceived opinions rule the mind of the people. Just try to give a positive comment on any Congress candidate in TOI. Your mail will be bombarded with abusive comments - at present. If you just want to score brownie points when lot of people "Agree" with your comment just put few dirty words against any Congress candidates. At State level there is a similar system. Take UP and Orissa for example. One cannot say anything against BSP or BJD. I belong to Orissa hence I have taken Orissa in the example as I actually know inside out of the politics in my home State. During the last election in Orissa almost all the EVMs were tampered with to show the "Conch" symbol of BJD no matter which button one pressed. Lot of people blame the license raj and Indira Gandhi but the same system is existing in each and every State with contractors ruling the roost.

5: Time is changing, nepotism in Indian politics will not be tolerated. Indian young educated middle class never ever will approve likes of Rahul Ghandhi and his assosiates. India had developed so much talent in the last 2 decades and it would be a matter of shame that we allow inapt, incompetent and dumb people to rule us. 50 percent of India is still living in abject darkness and ignorance, they just vote on the basis of political dynasties. Now time is changing more and more educated poople with no political god fathers are joining national politics.

8: Comon, dynasties are very natural. In USA the Bush family - 2 presidents, 3-4 Governors, Kennedys etc. etc. it is only natural.
That is why the caste system is very natural system. From father to son and to his son is the tradition of knowledge most easily transferred.

9: there is one man who can fix it all. his name is narendra modi. our corrupt media are working over time to bring him down.

10: It is not the people of India as a common mass. It is the media who provides uncalled coverage to Nehruvians without using sense of proportion.

During the period of Nehru too, media had always overlooked the frauds of Nehru and its friends like VK Menan, Teja besides Himalayan blunders with China. Indra Gandhi should have been condemned by media continuously, as her frauds and scams were on clear records with out even a little controversy of benefit of doubt.

e.g. Imposition of Emergency consequent of her own administrative failure at all level, Full Support to Bhutto under Simla pact for converting the great victory of Indian military into a terrible defeat. All these wisdom-less acts of Nehruvian kept India poor and full of problems. But learned media remained impressed with Nehru Indira Ghandi and sons daughters. On this date also media is busy in narrating styles, figure and dresses of current Nehruvian progenies. Media had and has developed a fashion to provide positive coverage to Nehruvians and to condemn opposition party leaders on by means of Humty Dumpty type terminology and interpretation.
In reality Nehruvian had won first election by fraud. It was far away from fairness. Second election he won by good work of his team barring Nehru himself. Nehru had continued to play blunders.

Nehruvian Congress had normally procured 30 to 42 percent in its very good period. Nehruvians are ruling because of learned people of media are confused. Nehruvians under the communists’ tactics have kept the people under jerks and problems.

Very true my freind...you seem very well updated and aware of all the wrongs being committed around us by those in position of power thru politics and their "modus operandi" for "self-aggrandisement".....but this knowledge is common now...why wud anyone refute this ....it is all so true.....but what is the solution.....thats where the whole problem lies....we all are good to comment and share our awareness which is all in common public domain...but what are we ready to do to improve things...you are so passionate...u r ready to shave your head off for 6 months...that shows your passion and zeal for some thing you so strongly believe is correct knowledge....but that is totally subjective.....where is th eobjectivity in the whole thought process...... why dont you think of a workable solution with equal zeal and spirit.Nature gives way to and accommodates only better alternatives...thats the basis of "Evolution".
Dont you think its time to take a pledge that we shall ,in our lifetimes do something to make that difference at our levels ,so that change in the right direction can be initiated. If we dont...then these dynasties will continue to rule for all times to come, and we shall remain to be mere spectators, as now.

dear arvind

when the white ant attack your home
the only option left is to eliminate
them

i forgot to add the thackeray family
to the list,no one dare to find out
how they can acquire mill lands called
Kohinoor mills in dadar and even make
a big complex over there

but today people elected them to power
again

When evil takes over then its not people
who decide their fate but its nature or
super power who find ways to eliminate
them from this world thats why they say
ENKA PAAP KA GHADA BAHUT BHAD GAYA HAI
AAB ENKO BHAGWAN HI SABAK DEGA

YES..We need to do something to change the direction, Leaving small differences between ourselves. Still we can support Anna Hazare's mission. We can spread his mission one to one. Let us re-launch and spread.

17: What choice do we have? Corruption is endemic, most of the elected members have criminal records, etc. It is at a point of no return no matter how much business or jobs other nations are sending its way.

18: Volume and it's in our culture to adopt a family instead of
a leader. Constitution was amended to dilute the voting power of the educated as Matriculation was a minimum requirement to vote to start with. Guess who did that amendment?
Posted by:Raj - 15 Feb, 2012
19:
The dilution of voting power was done at a time when a large population of India was illiterate and the idea of nation was based on equal rights for all people .. it was done to avoid exploitation of masses by a priviledged and educated minority but now we can bring in the concept of minimum requirement.
