What Google, Flipkart Are Doing To Retain IITians


When it comes to average salary offers, Indian companies are on par with the international giants. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's pay packages amounted to Rs 10 lakh in IIT Bhubaneswar and Flipkart offered packages between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 12 lakh. The top salaries also soar as companies, for example, Epic Systems, an IT services company, offered 57 lakh to two students at IIT Ropar and Works Applications, a Japanese company making the highest offer of Rs 35 lakh to an IIT Hyderabad candidate. Google paid around Rs 16-18 lakh while Amazon’s pay was around Rs 12 lakh.

Meanwhile, according to another report on TOI, the new fleet of IITs including Ropar, Patna, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar and Gandhinagar are beating their older and much established counterparts in terms of average salary offers. These IITs saw average salaries shooting up by 15 to 20 percent compared to the 5 to 10 percent offered at old IITs like Madras, Roorkee, Kharagpur, Bombay, Delhi and Guwahati. Also the newer IITs saw more Pre-Placement Offers (PPO) - Companies offering employment to students who performed well while interning with them. Also the top recruiters varied across campuses.
