Kolkata: The West Bengal government will provide environmental assistance to the business groups investing in the industrial sector in the state, an official said here Thursday. "We are preparing a comprehensive programme, Environmental Compliance Service Centre (ECSC), with the help of state Pollution Control Board (PCB). We've got funding worth 120 million from the World Bank for the project," Environment department principal secretary M.L. Meena said. Meena was speaking at the Environmental Partnership Summit organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He said the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) would also be a part of that initiative and provide support to the programme. "We will open a service centre and also launch a website through which we would lay support to the companies which will come to invest in the state. The ECSC will function as a monitoring unit in the state and facilitate companies to be more environment friendly," said Tapas Kumar Ghosh, chief engineer of the PCB. "We are initially zeroing in on some particular sectors like steel, petrochemical and sponge iron industries as these sectors contribute a substantial percentage of pollution to the air," he said. "The entire programme is likely to be ready in next one year," Ghosh said
