Bangalore: The Indian IT industry's doomed days are reflected in the IT competitive index where the country has slipped by two places. A study on the IT competitiveness by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has positioned India at the 48th rank due to its weak IT infrastructure and R&D environment. However, in the business environment and support for IT industry development India has maintained a stronger grip among the 66 countries. Sponsored by Business Software Alliance (BSA), the EIU study had ranked this IT hub as 46th in 2007. But the nation maintained to keep its lead ahead of its Asian counterpart China, who slipped by one place to the 50th position. The 66 countries have been analyzed on the basis of the key features like supply of skills, innovation-friendliness, technology infrastructure, protection and enforcement of Intellectual property rights, openness and competitiveness of the economy and carefully calibrated government support. As per this analysis U.S. managed to retain the top position while Taiwan climbed up the ladder by four places to reach the second position and UK reached the third spot climbing one step ahead of its previous spot. Followed by it, is Sweden at fourth place and Denmark at fifth.
