Visas to be granted to skilled foreigners only
New Delhi: In order to clear uncertainties in the country's new visa policy for foreign workers, the home ministry is preparing a fresh set of guidelines for Indian missions abroad. The new policy has already been communicated to all Indian diplomatic missions, reports Sahil Makkar & Surabhi Agarwal of the Mint. "Within a couple of days we will issue all the clarifications," a senior official of Home Ministry said. According to rules guidelined before, those earning $25,000 or above will be accounted as skilled workers and not more than one percent of the company's workforce should comprise of people from foreign nationality. The new rules stipulate that work visas be issued only for skilled foreigners and not for unskilled jobs that can be performed by locals and at the same time, the rules have also scrapped conditions on the number of foreign workers that can be hired and the salaries to be paid to them.
