BANGALORE: Vinod Khosla, the high priest of venture capital (VC) community, now owns a larger stake in Bangalore than the Silicon Valley from where he began his entrepreneurial pursuit around two decades ago. The midas touch man, who co-founded Sun Microsystems in 1982, is currently nurturing three startups here, which are engaged in cutting edge technology areas. Khosla , who heads the VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, is visiting his gold-field Bangalore on February 21 and 22 to chart out fresh action plans for these firms. While the 50 engineers at Infinera’s chip design and development centre here are working on the thumb-nail-size photonic chip, Corio, an enterprise service applications provider, employs over 65 engineers in the local centre, who are engaged in building self-service IT solutions for global corporates. Centrata, which originated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), recently started its engineering centre in Bangalore to develop products in an emerging area called business-centric IT management tools.
