Vineet Nayyar donates
30 Crore to charity
New Delhi: Vineet Nayyar, Managing Director of IT services firm Tech Mahindra has donated a third of shares in the company, converted from employee stock option plan (ESOP) in the past, worth over
30 crore to a Delhi-based charitable organization run by his wife, reports Economic Times.
He has gifted 3.5 lakh shares, which is worth
31.78 crore as per the closing price of Tech Mahindra shares on Wednesday at NSE, to Essel Social Welfare Foundation. Essel Social Welfare Foundation, an umbrella organization to many other NGOs, supports education of underprivileged children, including the girl child and the visually handicapped. It is run by Reva Nayyar, a retired bureaucrat who has in the recent past been involved with ministry of woman and child development and has been instrumental in enactment of policies and legislation pertaining to women and child welfare.

Vineet Nayyar when contacted by Economic Times said, "I have been associated with the organization for the past few years and trying to help these children in whatever way I can." This donation is large even by the standards set by bigger companies in the country. Most Indian companies donate in the range of
1-5 crore annually. As per disclosures made by public-listed firms, just three firms, Reliance Industries, Jindal Steel and Power and Jaiprakash Associates, had donated more than
30 crore each for the year ended March 31, 2009.

1: If he really interested in donating money in
charity he should have donated in charity
other than run by his wife. Mr. Nayyar next
time you please do it in this way only. Other
wise we people think you are doing it for the
sake of tax rebate. "ghar ka paisa ghar me
raha gaya".

2: You did justice to the charity. For what you
can do is already been done and have shown a
way for others. Let it be the stepping stone
for millionaires.

increment but he is donating such a huge
ransom. I do agree that charity is good but
also have a look at employees who work like
donkeys for more than 9.5 hours.

5: I hope politicians should also take lesson
from this kind of examples. Many people
donating for the good sake of the country but
our politicians are eating away the shares
and not the full amount goes to charity. It
is the good option to donate the charity for
good NGOs rather than govt.

6: I really dont agree with the message below,
"PLEASE KEEP QUITE IF YOU CAN HELP HELP".
How do people get inspired for donating
money, give for charity, there is nothing
wrong in spreading these kind of news. I
feel there is no harm to anyone in whatever
way. See how many positive responses except
one negative comment. Think Positive.

9: Dear Mr.Nayyar,
My best wishes to you and your wife for donating such good amount to charity for the purpose of children education. I would like to focus your attention on a our very innovative social cause project run by an IT Professional who is full time dedicating his life for vedic culture development through vedic education and cow protection. This project is in the urgent need of some donation for stopping the cow slaughter houses and imparting the vedic education to the society. It can help the society in overcoming the real worlds problems of wrong education system, unemployement, healthcare, crimes, terrorism, suicides etc.

Nayar for this kind of benevolence. There are
many riches in India to whom this charity is
nothing, but they do not bother to help
underpriviledgedsection.That is why people
like Mr.Ambani of RIL,JP Associates &

19: correction on the web site, it is
www.punarjenmmam.org. Wonder if it would be
healthier to encourage such acts of CSR as so
many small NGO's would be benifitted and have
corproate patronage.so let us look at the
positives, and find ways of doing things
better than totally discouraging or casting
aspersions on the intension.

20: Very heartening to hear about the great
gesture, wether run by wife or any one as
long as the end user is benifitted why not,(
charity begins at HOME may be is more sure of
the end use in this case ) we have been
struggling for ages trying to run a
residential centre for the adults with
different disabilities, this was after our
own pain of experiencing with a girl child,
sadly as of now we struggling to raise money
to keep it going, wish many more vinits are
there who will reach out to organisations.GOD
bless him and his gesture.to know more about
us visit our site www.puanrjenmmam.Keep it up
Mr vinit.

21: It is a pure selfish motive. Indirectly he
has taken a bribe. In fact Mr Nayar should be
questioned for his irresponsible act. Being
in such a repute position he has made mockery
of corporate. He has created a profoundly bad
impression. It is unfortunate that this is
called corporate social responsibility in
corporate world. this kind of people are
sucking the country by embezzling the funds
on the name of charity. I dont know much
about Mr nayar but I am sure that he may not
have donated even a single penny from his
pocket any better or underprivileged.
In my opinion, it is the moral duty of board of director to take him to task. Judiciary should also question this act and most importantly, Media should come forward to refute this act and they should show to people of this country through their channels that this kind of act on the name of charity is illegal, irresponsible and anti social and anti human.

22:I beleive, With out knowing the full
information we should not comment! One
request for our media is Please show the
works done by such a charity organizations
before giving these kind of donation news.
Which will give us enough information to
understand the values of the donations given
by persons like nayyar! Anyway I appriciate
this kind of donation( if that goes to right
hand! )... truth always triumphs!

23:Namaskar, I don't know, How u can say this
one as bribe? I think Share Trade is a
bussiness & every person is has frredom
for that, and every one is free to do
anything with his funds. If TechM has no
problem, why u spreading confussion? I think
Mr Nayar has great knowledge & skills for
doing things in right way & hence he got
a seat of MD of IT firm(IT giant like TechM)
o/w he would have become nothing... It may
happen in future that u'll start NGO for
development of u r hometown or any part of
Counrty. That time u'll give input from u r
side instead of begging infront of others, I
m sure u'll also follow same action as Mr
Nayar, u'll donate from u r pocket & give
u r maximum time. I know above info is just a
news I will say, pls read article again or
get info in depth about Mr Nayar & then
give u r valueable comment. Thanks..

24: What nonsense?! would he have made this
donation if the charity organization was not
owned by his wife? he has made fun of charity
and look at the number of people appreciating
for this. No wonder the state of our country
is like this and there appears no hope in
sight. what difference does it make whether
he eats the money or his wife does it? he
would have been better off by owning that
amount for himself and actually making
something real for contribution by say,
building a school or hospital for the
underprivileged. What was the need for
popularizing this act even if he did the
charity?
