Vijai Kumar, new COO of Halsey Pharma

ROCKFORD: Halsey Pharmaceuticals Wednesday announced that Vijai Kumar has been appointed Chief Operating Officer. Kumar joins the company from Pharmalogix Inc., where he held the position of president and chief operating officer. Prior to that, Kumar was Director, Research and Development for Warner Lambert from 1992 to 1996. Kumar was Director, Research and Development and Technical Services for Barr Laboratories from 1988 to 1992. Commenting, Michael Reicher, Chairman & CEO said, "Vijai has extensive experience in pharmaceutical operations and drug development and research. Besides overseeing all operations at the Company's two manufacturing facilities, he will be responsible for taking existing products under development to commercialization. In that capacity, he will be a key member of the management team evaluating drug development opportunities and executing the opiate strategy." Kumar holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Lucknow, India, a D.Pharm.from the College of Pharmacy, New Delhi, an M.S. in Industrial Pharmacy from Long Island University and an M.B.A. (Pharma) from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He replaces Gerald Price who has left the Company to pursue other interests. Regarding Price, Reicher said, "We wish Gerry well in his future endeavors." Halsey Pharmaceuticals, together with its subsidiaries, is an emerging pharmaceutical company specializing in innovative drug development.
