Bangalore: The value of real time collaboration has risen due to the strong adoption of video conferencing by organizations. But the irony is that only half of the enterprises are actually using the technology. The remaining 25 percent are planing to adopt it in the next two years. However, according to a report release by IT products and services firm CDW, 75 percent of enterprises will use video conferencing by 2013. Economic conditions around the globe and rising environment concerns are creating a new level of awareness and demand for collaboration. Cost control occupies top priority. Though it is believed to be a costly affair and bandwidth hog, the installation of video conferencing pays off well as it increases productivity, saves time and money. Sixty-nine percent of respondents who installed video conferencing in their organizations said it was crucial to complete a thorough network assessment before installation. And 66 percent of those had to upgrade or change their IT networks to accommodate video conferencing packets. The CDW surveyed 631 IT and Telecommunications managers. It revealed in the report that only one in five companies is currently using immersive telepresence technology for various collaboration, training and sales endeavors. However 48 percent are planning to implement it within the next two years, making it the hot spot for video conferencing and unified communication vendors. But due to high cost and complexity only the large enterprises have implemented video conferencing equipment. What really excites most companies in the immersive telepresence technology is the high-definition, life-sized images in meetings which actually gives the feel of a virtual conference room. The introduction of tablet or Android devices has completely changed the environment of Video conferencing. Today's generation which dwells with 3-D video games, Skype through their phone everyday find video conferencing very interesting and fully utilizes the technology. About 56 percent of companies running video conferencing said that they benefited from video conferencing as it avoided travel expenses. But 58 percent assured that video conferencing had fetched them a good deal of return on investment not only by cutting on their travel expenses but also saved money from reduced meeting times, improved employee productivity and faster time to market. CDW, Cisco Systems, and Polycom who provide platform for video conferencing are really optismistic about the video conferencing domain, as enterprises gear up to be equipped with immersive telepresence.
