BANGALORE:Veritas Software Corporation today announced that its India R&D center has been awarded a patent for FlashSnap, a product feature, in Veritas Storage Foundation. The FlashSnap feature helps IT organizations create multiple copies of an application at different points in time based upon business requirements. This enables enterprises to efficiently and quickly recover information and have the application resume normal business operations from any previous point-in-time. Moreover, the point-in-time copies can be used for other purposes such as testing and development, backup and recovery, or new application testing, all without impacting the production applications. This feature also received the Innovative and Far Reaching Invention of the Year award in 2002-2003. "The India R&D center is the hot-bed of technology innovations and we have been developing storage software for enterprises for a long time now. The Flash Snap feature adds another feather to our cap. We hope to continue to grow our talent pool and encourage a culture of innovation,” said Sharad Sharma, Vice President, Operations & General Manager India, Veritas Software. "This feature enables Veritas' backup and replication products to provide a complete end-to-end information management and availability solution to the customers," said Anand Kekre, Director of Technology, Veritas Software, and chief architect instrumental in the development of the FlashSnap. "In addition, 10 more features in the areas of virtualization, replication and backup/restore are currently pending for patents."
