Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department will soon invite requests for quotation (RFQ) from private companies for operating buses on 465 routes of the state. Earlier in May, the government invited expression of interest (EOI) from private players. "We received a very good response to it (EOI) and at present we are in the process of appointing a financial consultant," Transport Department principal secretary Desh Deepak Verma told. Eleven consultants have applied and as soon as the selection is over, the RFQ will be issued, he added. "The operator will be required to have at least 1,000 buses in the fleet and at the time of starting the services, a minimum of 250 buses should be launched on the routes," Verma said. While 60 percent buses will be of luxury class, the rest will be normal buses, he added. "Efforts are also in full swing for establishing the Uttar Pradesh Transport Regulatory Committee (UPTRC), and the bill is likely to presented before the cabinet in August," he added. While a former IAS official will be heading the UPTRC, the other four members will be experts from transportation, station management, finance and legal departments.
