Use open standard technology to counter cyber crime: Minister

Kolkata: To combat increasing cyber crime, a West Bengal minister has asked organisations and individuals to use open standard technology here Saturday. "There should be more use of open standards. Everybody should use the software in their own computers that will help them track the hacking source," the state's Information Technology Minister Debesh Das said. He was speaking at a seminar on cyber security organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Kolkata Commissioner of Police Gautam Mohan Chakrabarti said: "The nature of crime happening in the society has changed. It has shifted from physical crime to cyber crime and it is much more difficult to handle. The next decade is going to see more cyber crimes." He said to counter cyber crimes it is necessary that departments and individuals are well equipped. Chakrabarti requested the government to form an advisory group with best IT talent for interaction with the Kolkata police. Besides he also requested for some training programs by the industry players for members of cyber crime offices to fight the crime better.
