AHMEDABAD: Five Gujarat-based companies were on Tuesday awarded certificates of appreciation by the US for using the services of the US Commercial Service. The companies are Domes International, Lincoln Pharma, Gujarat Print Pack, Patel Brass Works and Rio Enterprise. John Peters, minister counselor with the US embassy, and Richard Rothman, of Mumbai's US consulate general, attended the function which was part of a two-day programme organised by the US Commercial Service. The programme included the launch of the Ahmedabad chapter of the Visit USA Committee. "The sourcing service is aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and will provide easy access to Gujarati businessmen wishing to import products or services from the US," Rothman said. "The service will streamline the process of importing from the US by institutionalising it and actively assisting importers from the state to identify the source of imports from the US," he said. The service is available across India. Rothman, however, clarified that the service was not available to exporters and the BPO sector. "We are part of the government. We are interested in increasing exports from the US. Therefore, we cannot help you in setting up a BPO unit as it will be tantamount to exporting jobs," he said, answering a question.
