KOLKATA: Miami-based imaging and information supplies distribution firm Databazaar.com opened its captive business process outsourcing (BPO) unit here Monday. The office will take care of the firm's entire customer relationship management (CRM) and back-office operations, S.P. Mukerjee, managing director of Databazaar India, said here. Databazaar India, Databazaar.com's Indian arm incorporated in 2001 that will run the new BPO unit, operates round the clock, maintaining not only the U.S. parent company's web development and marketing functions, but now also its entire CRM and all associated financial and back-office functions. The 2.5-billion Databazaar group, with a significant presence in three countries and customers in around 25, is one of the fastest growing distributors of computer peripherals and imaging and information supplies in the U.S. "Over $50,000 worth of customers' orders are processed every day by Databazaar India's team here run by 20 professionals. We are looking at earning export revenues of 10 million by the close of this fiscal," Mukherjee said. West Bengal Information Technology Minister Manab Mukherjee, who spoke to Databazaar.com's founder CEO Oney Seal over telephone, inaugurated the BPO unit, which has been on a trial run for the past one month. "Kolkata is an ideal yet mostly untapped location for higher-end BPO operations because of its unique talent pool," Seal told the minister. "The dramatic improvement in our customer service ratings in a mere two weeks, should inspire other corporates to seriously consider Kolkata as a BPO location," Seal said.
