U.S. firm offers security expertise to West Bengal govt.

Kolkata: A U.S.-based security firm has offered expertise to the West Bengal government for security of the metropolis under its 'Safe City' project. The company, Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems, is a provider of intelligence and information solutions, specialising in ground processing, unmanned ground systems and cyber security operations. Officials of the U.S. company gave a presentation before Chief Secretary Ardhendu Sen, Home Secretary Samar Ghosh, DGP Naparajit Mukherjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty at Kolkata Police Headquarters yesterday. The Home Secretary said the 'Safe City' project comprised specialised training, steps against trafficking, disaster management and railway security. The presentation also included measures against sudden attacks by extremists, Ghosh said. The company would make the initial investment to install its technology and later recover it from the user in terms of annuity, Ghosh said. The Chief Secretary said the company has been asked to submit a formal proposal to the state government and added that the DGP and Police Commissioner have been asked to set up a committee and study the presentation and the proposal when submitted. "If the proposal is accepted and implemented here successfully, its can be extended to adjacent areas including Howrah," Sen said.
