U.S. Indian Student Wins National AP Siemens Award

Bangalore: Ramya Rangan, an Indian American student won the Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement for the year 2011.Ramya, who is a student of Harker School in San Jose, Calif will be gifted an amount of $5000 as scholarship.



Ramya was recognized along with Albert Wu of the same school and the award honoured them as top achievers in America, in advanced placement math and science courses. Rest of the winners will be awarded with a scholarship amount of $2000 each.



The awards recognized 101 high school students from 50 states among which 96 of them were seniors, 4 juniors and 1 sophomore. Many Indian students also made it to the list of winners.



The Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement is a programme of Siemens foundation, which was set up in the year 1998.It is under the control of College Board.



“One of the great things about Advanced Placement is that it allows us to identify and recognize outstanding students like Ramya and Albert,” said Gaston Caperton, President of College Board in a press release. “Along with the 99 regional winners, these students represent our best hope for a bright future, where America is a world leader in science, technology, math and engineering—the foundation of the 21st century economy.”
