UBICS to make India hub for global initiatives

PUNE: Pittsburgh based UBICS Inc., the IT services arm of the Bangalore based UB group will make India a strategic center for its global initiatives. Towards this end, the company will invest $ 1 million on the research and development activities during its first year of operation in India, 2005-06, Sunil Patil, President, Global Solutions, UBICS said. Patil said the R&D center will be started in Pune which will be operational by May and will employ 200 professionals. Patil also said UBICS will operate in India through three centers in Pune which will house the main R&D center along with sales and support, while New Delhi will have a solutions division and Bangalore will have a sales and marketing centre. UBICS will also hike its head count to 300 from the present 50. Based on the initial response to the three offices, the company may start sales and marketing offices in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai at a later stage, Patil added. Patil said the development center in Pune and New Delhi will be the main center for the UBICS global operations and will market its premium products, ‘Ventive’ and ‘SeeItFirst’. Ventive is a recruitment and resource automation product, which has done its beta testing with KPIT Cummins, and SeeItFirst is a patented interactive streaming video technology, which helps organizations to deploy video in employee communication, remote training and education, both on demand as well as real time. UBICS was looking at revenues of $75 million of which it expected half to come from its Indian operations, Patil said adding presently the US accounted for about 90 percent of its revenues.
