Thiruvananthapuram: Two innovative projects at the Technopark here under its Technology Business Incubator (TBI) initiative have been chosen by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) for funding under its Technopreneurship Promotion Programme (TePP). The two projects from the Technopark TBI companies, Velozeta and Torque, have been awarded 1.2 million and 800,000, respectively by DSIR for their innovative and path breaking projects. In all six projects were presented for grant by Technopark of which two were selected. These two projects have been started by two groups of engineering students from the College of Engineering here. Velozeta is developing a patented novel six-stroke internal combustion engine architecture, which is projected to double fuel efficiency and drastically reduce pollutant emissions, compared to existing engines. The six-stroke technology is inherently scalable from lawnmowers to locomotives, and can be designed to run on different fuel types including petrol, bio-diesel and ethanol, providing a platform that can compete in any segment of the $250-billion combustion engine market. Torque, a mobile media and entertainment company, has been awarded the grant to develop their Mobile Crime and Accident Reporting Platform (MCARP). MCARP aims to improve security of citizens using the most advanced of technology innovations in a cost-effective manner. Lives can be saved by improving response time in the case of accidents if images from the accident scene arrive at the police control room in time. The Kerala police have cleared the MCARP proposal for a pilot run in Kochi. R.K. Nair, CEO, Technopark, in a statement to the press issued here Tuesday, said: "TBI in the last four years have been successful in creating an environment viable for development of technopreneurship in Kerala." "The result so far has been amazing and with path-breaking projects from start-ups like Velozeta and Torque, and the future looks extremely promising," he added. Technopark, as part of its incubation initiatives, along with Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala and Entrepreneur Development Institute of India based at Ahmedabad has set up the National Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (NCIIE) to develop entrepreneurship in Kerala. It aims to create an environment for budding technology entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions. For supporting this initiative, Technopark is also associated with DSIR as their TePP Outreach Centre.
