WASHINGTON: The US has awarded two grants totalling $484,000 to two Indian power companies, one interested in producing biodiesel fuel, the other in automating its power distribution. According to a US Trade and Development Agency (TDA) press release, the agency has awarded a $414,000 grant to North Delhi Power Limited to partially fund a technical assistance project aimed at automating the distribution of electric power. Another grant of $70,000 has been given to Bhoruka Power Corporation to partially fund a feasibility study on producing biodiesel fuel. Biodiesel fuel is a non-toxic, biodegradable alternative to petroleum diesel, which is a significant source of air pollution in India. The Trade and Development Agency funds various forms of technical assistance, feasibility studies, training, orientation visits and business workshops that support the development of modern infrastructure. The agency lays emphasis on economic sectors that may benefit from US exports of goods and services.
