Turn job seekers into job creators: Hamid Ansari

New Delhi: India has to build a sustainable micro-entrepreneurship movement, which would transform many of its job seekers into job creators, Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari said here Tuesday. "Such entrepreneurship, however, needs to be broad-based and supported by the civil society," Ansari said while addressing a conference on entrepreneurship, jointly organised by the Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust (BYST) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) BYST is a non-profit organisation, which is promoting micro entrepreneurship among the youth. Estimates show that about 93 million people would enter the work force in India between 2007-17. Ansari called for innovative solutions to meet the employment demand and said creation of micro entrepreneurship was a sustainable way to take the country ahead in the 21st century. He said this should be done to ensure that the marginalised sections get enough opportunities to live a decent life. Punjab National Bank chairman and managing director K.C. Chakrabarty assured the conference that any deserving young person with innovative business ideas would not be deprived of funds for the project. Describing youth entrepreneurship as a critical movement for nation-building, Chakrabarty called for greater involvement of all stakeholders to replicate and scale up this model.
