Truth tests for employees to prove loyalty

Hyderabad: How loyal are you towards your company? This is the question that employees are going to take very seriously as most of the companies are subjecting their employees to truth tests to find out how loyal they are, reports Saswati Mukherj of the Economic Times.
As per the new concept introduced in many firms, particularly export companies, employees have to face polygraph (lie-detection) tests, which, according to employers, is a way to check how sincere and committed the employees are.
A Hyderabad-based jewellery export firm decided to find out how sincerely were the employees carry out quality checks, when it received a complaint from its U.S.-based client about the dipping quality of diamonds in the jewels. The firm has also introduced a new clause called "loyalty check clause" as an in-built part of its contract.
According to Gandhi PC Kaza, Founder Chairman of Truth Labs, the questions in the test would include the rapport the employee shares with the Human Resource (HR) person or the quality control manager at the firm. This information will help the employers to figure out the person's commitment level, he said.
Experts said that although this new concept to be the latest fad in the corporate sector, it can also give rise to legal issues. According to E Balaji, Director and President at MaFoi Randstad, to question the employee's integrity when he is still on the payrolls is definitely legally debatable.
Although the employers can incorporate such clause in their contract letters, employees are free to object to them on a later date, said corporate lawyer K Rajendran.

will safeguard the environment, I will be
honest in my dealings with you... ' you get
the idea.
The company, or a corporation, is a very interesting animal - it acts like a person, it gets privileges like a person, yet somehow, it can never be penalized like one, a lot of companies OTOH are passing on 'liability' to their employees, be it senior management, executives or the usual scapegoats.
