NEW DELHI:Telecom regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will bring out its recommendations on the crucial spectrum issue on Friday when it meets that day to approve them. "We are finalizing them...discussing with members of the Authority and changing the language so that interpretation is clear. They could not be brought out earlier this week, as we were busy examining several TDSAT cases. On Friday, the full Authority will meet to approve the recommendations which would then be made public", D P S Seth, member, Trai said. Asked whether Trai was making any last minute changes in the recommendations, he said "no". Trai also held a meeting yesterday on the issue. Sources said the regulator is likely to suggest opening up of 1MT-2000 band for 3G services for both GSM and CDMA operators, which is seen as benefiting GSM players, including BSNL and MTNL, who have lined up heavy investments for offering 3G services. Trai proposals may not seek to release the crucial 1900 Mhz simultaneously as it could create 'serious interference problem'. It may also suggest giving more frequency to CDMA operators on 450 Mhz and 1800 Mhz band, which has been opposed by the CDMA operators saying their equipment are made only on 800Mhz and 1900 Mhz. "We want only 10-20 Mhz in the 1900 Mhz band. No other band would serve the purpose for us, S C Khanna, secretary general, CDMA operators body AUSPI, said.
