Toshiba buys SoCrates

BANGALORE:SoCrates Software India Pvt. Ltd. has been bought over by Japanese electronics and semiconductors giant Toshiba Corp for an undisclosed amount. SoCrates has been developing software for Toshiba’s system on chip business and with this acquisition Toshiba will get base to develop semiconductors to power digital devices. Established in 2002 by Singapore’s FTD Technology Pte Ltd., SoCrates today has 180 employees. The acquisition gives Toshiba the largest presence in India of any of Japan’s semiconductor companies. Speaking about the acquisition, Kazutoshi Eguchi, Senior Manager of System LSI Division I, System & Software Department, Toshiba Corporation Semiconductor Company said, “SoCrates has proved its ability to deliver embedded solutions that provide our business with a strategic boost. We now propose to reinforce this capability. By taking the initiative in guiding SoCrates’ continued growth and development, we want to position the company as a major hub within our software development organization, and as a key contributor to the development of software products.” Deepak Gupta of SoCrates said “This is an exciting opportunity for SoCrates. Toshiba has been our preferred partner, and we will be able to reinforce our contributions to software for Toshiba’s SoC solutions. We hope our expertise will support Toshiba’s efforts to become the world number one in this area.”
