NEW DELHI: Toshiba India Ltd., the local arm of Japanese information and communications systems giant Toshiba Corp, Wednesday announced plans to partner with the Indian government for power generation and infrastructure development. Toshiba, with its associates, has been contributing towards power generation in India in the last couple of years by providing latest technologies for thermal and hydropower generation plants. "One of the foremost issues on Toshiba's agenda will be to help India meet the power demand in the next 10 years as per the target set by the Indian government," said Kazuhiko Inamoto, the newly appointed managing director of Toshiba India. With its expertise in the sector, Toshiba plans to play a dominant role in India in the coming years, Inamoto said in a company statement issued here. The company also plans to market and utilise India's key strength in IT to enhance the competitiveness of Toshiba products. Toshiba, which has been in India since 1985, established a 100 percent subsidiary last year to enhance its business in both IT and infrastructure. Last year, the company set up an India Desk at its headquarters in Tokyo to provide information to Toshiba's in-house and group companies, mainly on the Indian IT industry and software houses. Currently, the company outsources software to the top Indian IT companies for internal and external use. "Toshiba's top management is eager to enhance the utilisation of Indian software," said Inamoto. Inamoto also predicted an increase in the software outsourcing to India to more than 10 percent within two years. He further added: "We see India as one of the most promising markets. I intend to strongly promote our business activities here to take advantage of the steady growth of the Indian market and the various business opportunities." Prior to his appointment as the Toshiba India managing director, Inamoto was working as the manager of power apparatus export division at the company's Tokyo headquarter.
