In the year 2009 alias the 'Smartphone era', we have witnessed every mobile firm ringing in new modifications to be the next iPhone killer. A quick assessment by siliconindia reveals iPhone is still the ruler, yet there are a few who stands to have great chances of filling the gap to be the best in the smartphone group. Here are the top five high-end smartphones which have laid the path for the future innovations.
1) Apple iPhone 3GS

iPhone is at the top of the best high-end smartphone for 2009 as we believe that it delivers a high quality smartphone experience. Externally, the new iPhone looks more or less the same as its predecessors but internally there have been some major changes.
Apple has increased the speed of the phone to 600MHz. In terms of storage, the RAM stands at 256MB, while the total storage capacity is extended to 32 GB. It also includes internal compass, improved optics for its camera (now 3 megapixels) and a better graphic chip called PowerVR SGX. The basic and most important difference in this new version is the operating system which is now 3.0 that helps it to offer additional features like cut, copy, and paste, stereo Bluetooth, MMS, tethering, video recording, landscape keyboard options for more applications.
iPhone 3GS is available with Vodafone and Airtel in India and the 32GB is priced around
36,000, differing from operator-to-operator.
2) Nokia N900

Nokia N900 is the best smartphone the handset giant has come up with, this year. Loaded with powerful ARM Cortex-A8 processor and up to 1GB of total application memory, this phone can keep dozens of application windows open simultaneously. The phone has inbuilt storage of 32GB which can be extended to 48GB. The 5 megapixels Carl Zeiss camera allows to snap quality photos.

The phone measures 4.4 inches by 2.4 inches and features a 3.5-inch widescreen display. It is also equipped with a Mozilla browser and Adobe Flash 9.4 support. In terms of internet speed the device provides 10/2 High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) for mobile broadband speed, along with wireless LAN connectivity.

3: Correction. The iPhone 3GS is NOT available
in India.
What is available is the iPhone 3G at the price you mentioned.
Which sucks, considering you pay a ridiculous price for an outdated phone AND get locked to a carrier who doesn't offer 3G AND you don't get any good data plans AND there is virtually no Apple support for any service/repairs after paying so much.
For India the best option as of now is: HTC Hero and BSNL 3G sim card.

7:The HTC HD2 (Leo) is undeniably and

should have had the HD2 at #1

I also fail to understand why hasn't The Acer Neo Touch been considered in this comparison?

9: The HTC HD2 had problems, and should have
been ranked lower.
The phone was very buggy. Lots of crashes. There is a well-reported SMS bug that causes some SMSes not to be sent. There's another well-reported bug that puts a pink mark in the centre of videos. Windows Mobile was not optimised for the Snapdragon. Also, the Snapdragon's 720p video processor was disabled because of Windows Mobile. Business apps did not run well, as most were designed for a stylus, and were incompatible with the large capacitive screen on the HD2.
You need more reasons why this phone should not be on the list? HTC's has another phone with similar specifications, called the HTC Bravo / HTC Passion (in US). I predict that because the Bravo runs the Android operating system, it will have fewer problems than the HD2 which runs Windows Mobile.
