Toonz bags $4.5 M Korean contract

THITUVANANTHAPURAM: An Indian company has bagged a $4.5 million contract from a Korean production house to produce an animated television series. The Technopark-based Toonz Animation India Pvt. Ltd. has bagged the contract from a leading Korean production house, ANI21 Co. LTD. "We have signed an agreement with ANI21 to produce the animated television series 'Twin Princes'," said Toonz Chief Executive P. Jayakumar here Friday. The series includes a six-minute trailer and 52 episodes of 23 minutes each, with a blend of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensioal animations. "We are thrilled to have Twin Princes on our production slate. This big-budget series has immense potential and will help us make a major headway in the global animation market. It will further our capability to incorporate 3D and computer graphics-based elements into traditional 2D animation," said Jayakumar. Top ANI21 officials, accompanied by key personnel from Apple Tree Films, which is involved in the merchandising of this series, had earlier visited the Toonz studios here. The Seoul-based ANI21, established in September 2000, specialise in animation production, broadcast programme planning and character development and licensing. Toonz will have exclusive broadcast rights to the series in India for 10 years. Production will begin in May 2004 and is slated for completion in 2006. Founded in 1999, the high-tech Toonz studio delivers content for film, television, videodiscs, Internet and other interactive platforms.
