Bangalore: There are some things that are common to every organization. Office politics being one among them. And the sad part is that you cannot be out of it when you join an organization. However, you can always have a way of dealing with them. Here's how.
If you are in a position where you have others working under you, that doesn't give you the liberty to abuse your position or use it for your own advantage. This will lead to you being the subject of hatred of your colleagues. In that scenario, you are bound to be the center of office politics.

Being a team player will take you a long way in the office. You must realize that the company and the team come before you. Being a team player increases your chances of promotion and makes you look like a better person. So even though you have a negative opinion about a colleague, try to refrain from voicing it when at work.
Maintaining a professional attitude at work will make others realize that you are there to work. This will make others involve you less in the politics and gossips at work.
Also learn and follow the culture in your organization. Wearing loud make up or short dresses will shift the focus of dirty gossips on you.
Try and stay away from the office grapevine. If you are a gossip monger, people around you lose respect for you.
Staying busy will not only keep you from people who try to involve you in gossip but also resist you from involving in gossip talks.
Refraining from politics at workplace will help you maintain good mental health and make your working relationships last. So keep in mind that even though you cannot purge politics, you can definitely keep yourself away from them.

1: no i dont believe a inch of whats written
Guys office politics is a part of ur work, if u are the boring and aloof person, u are kept so forever. And in few years everything u do goes unnoticed.
Being diplomatic and smart is the solution. U could always be part of gossip group an dont contribute, just keepin updated abt around sorrounding
If u wanna be a saint why not go Hill top.

3: The article is good.Focussed, committed and
sincere workers are also prey of goosips and
backbiting becuase it gives insecurity to the
rest of the lot, It is better to refrain from
gossips but it should be our deliberate
attmpt to to indulge into healhty
conversations with co workers

4: Grapevine are the barometer said by Herbert
Simon. No one can be away from the politics
nor he should try to do. Sounds
absurd?..Going away from the politics will
let you alone in the informal groups. Instead
be clear of the controversies..need of the
hour is be diplomatic...i dont subscribe to
the view of article. Its too simplistic
narration or prescription of the often very
complicated formal and informal relationship
in the office. Yes they are vital too!

5:U r right! I have been a victim of office
politics and to my sad late realisation it
was only because I involved myself too much
in work and too less in gossip, grapevine,
informal buttering, etc.! I have also
observed very often that promotions and
lucrative opportunities almost go only to
those who constantly glean vital gossip in
advance from superiors and work on getting
the same for themselves. The hardworkers and
busy workers always stay the same - hard
working and busy! No good opps.

7: stop posting western people's "stock"
photographs!
Silicon "India" should have at least recognizably Indian faces.
Love your work, not your company! - attributed to a famous Indian :)

8:re stop posting western peoples stock photos
lol I was thinking the same thing! Im from
Australia and Im thinking if this is meant to
be A Typical Indian Office Scene doesn't
India employ their own? Really it makes me
feel like You don't even have an office. This
photo looks fake and makes me feel you
business is fake... perhaps Silicon needs to
employ a public relations person (with a good
eye for detail) :)) just saying !

9: OMG loud makeup short dresses ? what the....
is Silicons mind stuck in the 1950's why on
earth are these things even mentioned and
they are so sexiest I Don't see any mention
by the way about Men dress ?Lets say Oh make
sure you don't show your hairy arms or hey
that mustache you better shave that off as it
may be interpreted that you are trying to
stir the sexual attentions from the Ladies!
and that might make You the centre of Dirty
Gossip! For heavens sake this is just what
we don't need in this day and age uneducated
small minded mentalities voicing advice ..
Especially using women"s attire as an excuse
for peoples Unprofessional Attitudes and
Behaviors Short skirts and so called loud
cosmetics is a personal statement made here
that should not be even brought into debate
regarding ones work or gossip of the work
place.. And if one was being spoken of in a
derogatory way because of the height of their
skirt or how much make up one is wearing then
I would call that abuse in the work place
Deliberate Harassment and Un- warranted
