Bangalore: Every year on Republic Day the young brave hearts of the nation are awarded the National Bravery Award by the Prime Minister for the brave acts carried out by them. This year 25 children are on the list to receive the award. India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru had introduced these awards in 1957 after he was taken by surprise by a brave act of a 14-year-old scout, Harish Chandra. Since then, heroic acts of the young children have been recognized with these respective awards. 848 children have received the honor till date. This year the list includes:

Mittal Patadiya: On the bravery list we have 12 year old Mittal Patadiya who fought three thief’s who entered her house in Gujarat. In the incident her foster mother was beaten up. Young Mittal bit and kicked, all the while screaming for help to save her mother. She then managed to kick open the locked door and alert the neighbors. Terribly wounded Mittal was then taken to hospital where she underwent a four hour surgery. She has an incredible 350 stitches on her neck and cheek as a proof of her valor in taking on the robbers.

Kapil Negi: Kapil from Uttarakhand will get the award posthumously. The boy was on his way to school with ten others when a landslide blocked access to a bridge. He then carried the children on his back one by one, but was himself crushed under a boulder.
