New Delhi: With the increasing threat to life and infrastructure due to terrorism and Naxal activities, industry body CII has suggested a concept of 'safe city' to ensure protection with the help of technology. The safe city concept, to be implemented under public-private partnership model, would offer a proactive system to detect and prevent threats to infrastructure and economic centres, said a CII-HCL security study. "Frequent terrorist attacks, Left wing extremism and security breaches have necessitated the need for enabling robust security across the cities," it said. It can be recalled that over 140 passengers of a Mumbai-bound express train were killed when Maoists derailed it on May 28. Countries across the globe are faced with internal and external threats by extremists. In 2008, India was world?s third most terror afflicted country. The study has suggested that security of key cities should be a priority.
