London: Tata Motors, the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover, is in the final stages of deciding whether to build a new plant tailored to JLR in Britain or India, according to media reports today. According to a report in The Telegraph, Britain is the favourite, with sites in the Wolverhampton area and South Wales on the shortlist. The go-ahead would provide an additional bonus for the already considerable motor vehicle engine industry in Britain, the report said. Ford, which currently supplies JLR with Jaguar engines, may no longer produce cars in Britain but engine plants at Bridgend and Dagenham serve the group''s European motor vehicle manufacturing sites. Tata''s initial priority was Land Rover development but the success of the new Jaguar range has forced the Indian owners to take a fresh look at the brand''s prospects and abandon plans to close one of three Jaguar plants in the Midlands.
