Tata Motors posts 24 percent sales growth

MUMBAI: Tata Motors, one of India's leading commercial vehicles and passenger car makers, said Monday its sales in November grew by 24.4 percent over the same period in the previous year on increased customer demand. The company, an arm of one of India's largest diversified business conglomerate Tata Group, said it sold 31,428 vehicles last month, including exports, up from 25,255 logged in November 2003. Tata Motors sold 15,774 commercial vehicles such as buses and trucks in the domestic market in November 2004, an increase of nearly 25 percent over 12,626 sold in the corresponding period in the last year. In the cars segment, the company sold 13,089 units in the domestic market in November 2004, registering a growth of 22 percent, said a Tata Motors press statement issued here. The hatchback Indica car registered a sale of 7,580 units in November, growing by 27 percent over the same period in the previous year. The company's offerings in the entry mid-size segment are growing by 29 percent in the current fiscal. During the period April-November 2004, the company's total sale touched 247,205 units as against 190,639 sold in the same period last year, representing a growth of 29.7 percent. Its exports for November rose to 2,565 units as against 1,904 sold in the same month last year. Cumulative export for the first eight months of the current fiscal at 15,442 is growing by 39.7 percent.
