Tata Indicom launches walky talky in Kolkata

Kolkata: Telecom service provider Tata Indicom Tuesday launched its walky talky service in Kolkata. Tata Teleservices Ltd regional head-east and chief operating officer Sanjiv Sinha said: "It is a lifestyle product priced at 1,299 and designed for the growing needs of the home phone users." These handsets are manufactured in China. The cordless walky talky has features like, speaker, caller ID, large phone book and polyphonic ringtone. The company is already present in 18 circles in India. It will foray into Assam, other northeast states and Jammu and Kashmir Aug 15 this year. The company plans to add 10 million more mobile subscribers by the end of this fiscal. In Kolkata, month-on-month market share of the company stands at 20 percent. It has total 1,774 base transceiver stations (BTS) in eastern India and plans to add another 713. Sinha projected an investment of 6 billion ($150 million) in the east for this fiscal. Of this, 2.9 billion will be invested to set up 255 BTS in the northeast.
