Tata Comm to invest $430 Million in Asia Pacific

New Delhi: Private telecom major Tata Commununications Thursday announced that it will invest around $430 million (21 billion/2,100 crore) in the Asia Pacific region to expand its operations. The investments will be used for developing its internet data centre Tata Communications Exchange (TCE) and for the completion of the main segment of its TGN-Intra Asia Cable system, a company statement said. These investments are part of the company's $2-billion expansion plan worldwide, it added. The TCE and the TGN-Intra Asia cable system are part of the Tata Global Network (TGN) that includes advanced submarine cable networks, a tier 1 internet protocol platform and data centre and co-location facilities worldwide. "The Asian market continues to be promising, even in the current economic environment. Businesses need to capitalise on the opportunities this region provides, and investments in Asia are critical for the growth of global business," Tata Communications president and chief operating officer Vinod Kumar said in the statement. TGN is the flagship data centre of Tata Communications, set up to meet the increasing demand of outsourcing from multinational companies. TCE is being developed in partnership with Mapletree Industrial Fund - a pan-Asian industrial fund managed by Mapletree Investments Fund Management Pte Ltd (MIFM). The Singapore-based MIFM is a wholly-owned subsidiary of real estate and capital management major Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd.
