NEW DELHI: Tarun Das, who has been synonymous with the growth of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) over the last four decades, is expected to step down. The CII at its national council meeting Thursday is expected to take a final decision on Das' desire to retire from the helm of affairs, though he still has three years of his contract left. Das turned 65 last month. The growth of CII as a key business lobby, striving to influence political decision-making and in making India a business destination, has been in a large measure due to the proactive efforts of Das. According to CII sources, Das is expected to remain an advisor to CII even after deputy director general N. Srinivasan takes over.
