Tamil Nadu to Draft New IT Policy: Jayalalithaa
Chennai: J. Jayalalithaa, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, said her government plans to come out with a new policy on information technology (IT) to catapult the state to the number one position in the sector.
Speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-organised 'Connect 2011' IT conference here, Jayalalithaa said: "My government proposes to bring out a new information technology and ITES (IT enabled services) policy that will engender many avant garde features. This will catapult Tamil Nadu to the numero uno position."
She also said her government was committed to providing an investor friendly industrial policy framework.
Stressing that Indian IT sector continues to be one of the sunshine sectors, she said Chennai is set to become the IT capital of the country, with one new company coming up every week.
She said the software exports out of Tamil Nadu during 2010-11 is estimated to be over 
50,000 crore.
"About 49 percent of Tamil Nadu's IT exports constitute system and application software, while BPO (business process outsourcing) constitutes only 12 percent. This is a clear reflection of the climb-up in value-chain and maturity achieved by the IT industry in Tamil Nadu," Jayalalithaa said.
She said there are over 1,800 software and ITES exporters in the state, including over 210 fully owned subsidiaries foreign companies.
