TTSL, Tata Infotech to develop wireless data applications

NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices and Tata Infotech on Thursday announced a joint initiative to develop wireless data application, as part of which the two companies would set up a wireless application lab at IIT, Mumbai. According to a news agency, the lab would amalgamate strengths and technologies of the two companies and explore possibility of developing new wireless products and exploit emerging opportunities and market various products and services in wireless data transmission space. The two companies would explore and develop applications ranging from speech and script recognition software, video streaming, ATM based applications, and entertainment based mobile applications like games, news and sports updates amongst others. A customer can also look forward to access database services like Yellow pages, mobile based transactions like mobile commerce and banking, communicate via messaging or read e-mail over phone using text to speech software. "Tata Teleservices and Tata Infotech's decision to tap group synergies is set to benefit customers of both the companies. The various hi-tech wireless data applications, jointly developed by two companies would enable us to service a range of entertainment and productivity needs of our customers," Tata Teleservices managing director, S Ramakrishnan told the news agency.
