T-Series to nab digital content pirates on their own

Thursday, 04 June 2009, 19:38 Hrs
New Delhi: The Gulshan Kumar-founded T-Series, a brand of Super Cassettes Industries Limited (SCIL) is starting an anti-piracy drive to track those who steal its digital content.

"We are starting an anti-piracy drive on our own to track all culprits who steal our copyright work in digital content, as we are suffering huge revenue losses every year due to piracy. Once we catch them, we will get all hardware seized and confiscated and won't stop until we reach a legal conclusion under the Copyright act," Anil Kakkar, general manager of T-Series told IANS Thursday.

"We are doing it since approximately the last 15 years for our cassettes and music CDs and now we will also look into the matter for our digital resources. We've also got our own dealer network and anti-piracy team throughout the country to help us minimise our losses," he added.

The company's decision came in effect when it filed a complaint June 1 with a police station in Mangalore against Classic Video shop for infringement of its copyright works like "Billu", "Ghajini", "Aap Ka Suroor", "Apne", "Fashion" and "Karz" that had been illegally downloaded and copied onto multiple discs, card readers and pendrives.

A police team headed by inspector K. Srikant conducted the raid and recovered around 580 MP3 CDs, 610 DVDs, 8 memory cards and other digital equipments and arrested two men - Avinash and Suresh - for piracy.

The label also filed a complaint that led to the raid on another such shop in Jhajjar district in Haryana Thursday.
