NEW DELHI: Indian telecom watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Wednesday asked all internet service providers (ISPs) to route domestic traffic within the country for better quality of service and growth of internet services. In order to ensure more participation by ISPs, TRAI released a consultation paper on 'Improvement in the Effectiveness of National Internet Exchange of India'. According to a press release, only a limited number of ISPs have joined the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI), negating its very purpose. In 2002, TRAI had set up the NIXI to direct ISPs to route traffic within the country itself, which will also ensure reduction in international bandwidth requirement.
