TCS to set up yet another major facility in Chennai

CHENNAI: Tata Consultancy Services, India's leading software service provider, is planning to set up a new multicrore facility at nearby Sirusserry, its fourth one in Chennai. The company had already acquired 70 acres of land for the purpose at a cost of Rs 13 crore, he told reporters, adding that the first phase of the facility was scheduled to be operational in the next 24 months with an initial staff strength of 5000, according to S Mahalingam, Chief Financial Officer of the company. "The idea was to expand the facility to accommodate 7500 software professionals in 36 months and finally 10,000 employees in the next four years," he said. The total investment at the new facility would be around Rs 200 crore over a period of time, he added. TCS already have a 160,000 sq feet facility in nearby Sholingnallur, and 80,000 sq feet facility in Ambattur near the city and 90,000 sq feet in Tidel Park. Chennai handles at least 23 per cent of the company's total business contributing almost the same percentage to the company's total revenues, he said.
