MUMBAI:Tata Consultancy Services is setting up a development center in Germany as part of its strategy to expand in the European market. The company plans to recruit 300-400 personnel by the end of this year for this purpose. "We plan to establish offices at three locations in Dusseldorf, Stuttgart and Walldorf. Two of these locations will be sales offices and one will be a global development center," said N. Chandrasekharan, Executive Vice-President. "Germany is Europe's largest economy and success in this fast-growing market is a critical plank of our overall European strategy," he said. The company has global centers in Uruguay, Brazil and Hungary. TCS' focus in Germany is on three verticals - banking, financial and insurance sectors. "We also plan to capitalize on TCS competencies in package (SAP) implementations, upgrades and maintenance projects as well as develop stronger relationships with manufacturing corporations especially in areas of engineering Services," said Chandrasekharan. Most of the employees for the center will be German. According to Chandrasekharan, there is a high demand in Europe for German-speaking personnel. The company has also kept the option of acquisitions for expanding in the German market and is looking for a local customer base and business expertise. "An acquisition would be perfect for us if it fills a gap. We are waiting for the right opportunity but we are not currently in discussions with any German company," he said TCS also has further plans to expand its operations in other parts of Europe and increase the strength in its Budapest center to 1,000 from the current figure of about 300.
