MUMBAI: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) will invest $1 million to join a five-year transnational research and development collaboration with Stanford University for research in the critical area of data privacy. As part of the collaboration, TCS and the computer science department of the American university will work on joint projects focused on areas of data privacy, TCS MD and CEO S Ramadorai told reporters here today. "The aim is to create a reliable global platform for security of online data privacy," he said. As per the project, TCS would become an industrial partner on data privacy in the new 'Trust' initiative, of the university. The collaboration would help TCS provide leading edge data masking tools for clients to securely transmit data, Ramadorai said. "We have an internal team working with a data masking platform who will share some findings with the researchers. The outcome might be an improved version of our product or a totally new project," he said. TCS had released last October a data security product, Masketeer, which masks personal and sensitive information of online data. The system is currently undergoing evaluation.
