TCS to hire Science graduates

New Delhi: India’s largest software company, Tata Consultancy Services, also know to hire the largest number of freshers has announced its plan to hire science graduates to meet the demands of the rising tech industry. Labeled TCS Talent Transformation Program, about 2000 B.Sc. and B.C.A. graduates are expected to be hired in the academic session. The program will aim to transform science graduates into global software professionals and is the first scalable program undertaken to draw graduates from disciplines other than engineering into the global technology services industry. But they would be hired as trainees and would be making less money compared to engineers. TCS CEO and MD, S Ramadorai said “About 500 students have already been hired for pilot projects of ‘TCS Talent Transformation Program in its Chennai facility,” further adding that they might raise billing rates for existing contracts, which are up for renewal by 3 to 5 percent and for new contracts by 5-10 percent. As many as 350 colleges have been included in this program so far. “Good science graduates have attributes like logic and reasoning that are important in the technology services industry. We believe that our transformation program is the way forward to help induct graduates with varied academic background into the IT industry," said S Padmanabhan, Global Head, Human Resources. The training program would be an intensive seven-month residential transformation program; the curriculum will include formal lectures, projects and assignments, quizzes and interactive sessions. The selected graduates will undergo courses in the principles of software development and IT, develop an understanding of core technologies underlying IT systems as well services like package implementation as well as new technologies like Java, .Net as well as TCS' proprietary tools, frameworks and quality processes. This will be followed by soft-skill development programs in presentation, communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
