TCS rule the export revenue chart

NEW DELHI: The Indian IT industry is soaring after having achieved flying colors in the market in terms of revenue. Wearing the king's crown of this export triumph is Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), with revenues of Rs 11,595 crore (excluding the BPO segment) after it topped the list of software and service exporters in 2005-06. It also raced past its closest competitor, Infosys, who was able to clock revenues showing to the amount of Rs 8,977 crore (excluding BPO) in the same year. With an increase in revenues of 36 percent from the previous year, the IT export market continued its dominance recording earnings that touched Rs 108,000 crore in 2005-06 from Rs 79,977 crore the previous year. According a recent survey conducted on the current IT market, IT exports is likely to sustain this growth rate in the near future, as a growing number of Indian IT firms were bagging or renewing high-value long-term service contracts. Overall, IT industry grew 33 percent. The survey also announced its results and research pertaining related areas. Outsourcing is seeing a domestic comeback with domestic outsourcing segment witnessing a growth of 20 percent in 2005-06, after its long dominance by foreign players shifting their back-end operations to India. The recruitment drive, led by Infosys, also grew recording 7.4 lakh people joining. Infosys held the highest number with the recruitment of 75 per cent freshers. The growth benefit extended to other areas as well as the BPO exports grew by 37 percent to Rs 27,789 crore, training market grew by 14 percent and stood at Rs 1,453 crore. PC and laptop sales also saw a high with an increase of 21 per cent to 4,052,241 units and 168 percent to touch 588,592 units, respectively.
