PITTSBURGH: The Sustainable Computing Consortium (SCC) said on Wednesday that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Asia's largest global software consulting and services organization, has increased its involvement in the Consortium to the Sponsor level – one of only two corporate partners to be active at that level. "We are delighted that Tata Consultancy Services, a world leader in IT and management consulting services and a founding member of the SCC, has stepped up its support of the Sustainable Computing Consortium by becoming a Sponsor," said William Guttman, director of the SCC. The SCC is an organization at Carnegie Mellon University composed of leading global businesses, software developers and government agencies whose aim is to improve software quality, dependability and security. Arup Gupta, president of TCS’ North American operations, said, "As consultants in the field of IT and management, we routinely witness firsthand the enormous risks associated with existing weaknesses in IT security. Our commitment to quality and security of software systems works hand-in-hand with the Sustainable Computing Consortium’s goals of mitigating these risks and improving overall system dependability. We are proud to be associated with the SCC and to have the opportunity to work alongside other forward-looking organizations that are helping to address these challenges." Gupta added that, as part of TCS’ commitment, the company will place TCS employees onsite at Carnegie Mellon to actively participate in SCC research. As a Sponsor, TCS will also be an active contributor to the development of the organization’s framework, and will play a role in determining the direction of the group’s research initiatives. Currently, TCS is assisting the consortium with the creation of sustainable measurement technologies and IT risk measurement techniques. "The success of the SCC hinges on the commitment and collaboration of its membership,” Guttman added. “This move underscores TCS' outstanding support and dedication to the issues on which the SCC is focused, as well as the growing momentum of the SCC and the expanding participation of our membership." In addition to TCS, the membership of the Sustainable Computing Consortium currently includes: AIG, Alcoa, Boeing, Caterpillar, Cerner, Cigital, Cisco, Confluence, FedEx, General Atlantic Partners, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, IBM, Keybank, Labware, Mellon Financial, Merck, Microsoft, NASA Ames Research Center, Oracle, Pfizer, PrintCafe, Programming Research, Raytheon, RedSiren, Reed Smith, SAIC, Seagate Research, UPMC Health System, Vanguard, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich Rosati.
