HOLTSVILLE: A Symbol Technologies spokeswoman refuted a report out of India saying that the company plans to double its workforce in Bangalore over the next two years. The report of new hiring came just weeks after the company announced it will cut about 700 jobs worldwide, including 150 on Long Island. A local website said Symbol Regional Manager G Sathiyakumar said Symbol plans to increase the number of engineers to 300 to 400. Symbol spokeswoman said that though the new Bangalore facility has the capacity to accommodate 400 employees, no plans have been announced to add staffing. "I think he misspoke a little," she said of Sathiyakumar. On July 1, Symbol said it would take a restructuring charge of $75 million to $95 million as it cut 700 jobs. In recent weeks, Symbol has been in a state of flux after the resignations of CFO Mark Greenquist in July and CEO Bill Nuti earlier this month. Executive Sal Iannuzzi became CFO and interim CEO in the wake of the departures.
