MUMBAI: Global Information Technology major Sun Microsystems will supply its Enterprise class high-end servers to telecom service provider Tata Teleservices (TTSL), in one of the biggest deals for servers in telecom space, estimated to be valued at over Rs 100 crore. The deal involves deployment of Sun Fire SF 15k Enterprise class servers for mission critical applications, including billing, customer relationship management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and data warehousing, Sun Microsystems India Director (Telecom), Kapil Sood said. Sood did not disclose the amount of the deal, but said Sun Microsystems would be supplying its Unix-based servers to the Tata unit, he said. However, sources close to the deal said the transaction was believed to be of over Rs 100 crore. TTSL Chief Information Officer Rajeev Nagpal said the company would use the servers for scaling up its telecom infrastructure to provide real-time responses and services, apart from helping telecom service provider to develop new services on a fast pace. Meanwhile, Sun has also developed three initiatives - Data Center Optimisation, Sun Managed Services and Sun Customer Ready Systems - to help its customers in the telecom industry deal with emerging technology issues, Sood said. These initiatives would help companies to improve resource utilisation, lower the total cost of ownership, focus on core businesses and simpler and swifter deployment of technology, he said.
