Sun Micro bullish on data storage market

HYDERABAD: Technology solutions provider Sun Microsystems is bullish at India's growing data storage market, including the emerging information lifecycle management (ILM) with a range of solutions and services. While verticals such as technology, banking and financial services, telecom and healthcare are taking to data storage and management technologies, e- governance has emerged as one of the fastest growing sectors in the country when it comes to storage. The company’s Country Manager of Data Management Group, Sun Microsystems, Vijay Pradhan said that the data storage requirement within enterprise is witnessing a lot of consolidation. This consolidation is driven by business compulsions as well as regulatory issues. The company had acquired StorageTek and added a portfolio of solutions to the Sun range. Based on this expanded On a visit to Hyderabad, Pradhan said Sun and StorageTek together offer the most complete range of products and services for securely managing data assets and identity of information. Pradhan said, "With the expansion in e-mail and Web-based solutions, the rate of data growth is increasing. With much of this information serving as reference data, cutting across industry segments they are faced with the challenge of managing data. By providing a holistic solution, we seek to address their data management requirements." Referring to the growth of e-Governance in India, he said Sun sees a big opportunity to be tapped. “We are partnering with National Informatics Center in some of the major projects. Now with a slew of replicatable projects, it is a matter of time other e-Governance projects would take shape. This provides us with an opportunity to offer our expertise.”
