Europe’s leading systems integrator for renewable energies, SunTechnics Energy Systems Pty, has launched its India operations in Bangalore with an initial investment of $2million. The company is targetting $4 million revenue in fiscal Jan-Dec 2006. It specialises in photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal products, bio-mass generated energy, hybrid systems (small wind turbines combined with PV or diesel generators), wind power and heat pumps. “Although India produces 1,20,000 megawatts of electricity there are 1,00,000 villages without electricity. It is estimated that by 2012 India will have a deficit of 80,000 megawatts. The Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources has set itself the target to cover about 10 per cent of the total electricity required, using renewable energies, especially rural electrification. We are addressing this market,” says SunTechnics Founder Hans-Martin Ruter. The company, which has offices in Bangalore, Delhi and Trivandrum plans to ramp up its headcount from 40 to 100 by year end. The company electricity generating facilities and the first 500 kilowatt project is to be realised with the new technology developed by IISc, within the year. Last year SunTechnics’s global revenues touched $300 million and it is targetting $500 million this fiscal.
