BARAMATI:The Government has promised that personal computers for less 10,000 ($250) will be rolled out by June this year. Union Communication and IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran today said the Government was working with various vendors to roll out PCs at that price. Maran was confident the Government would be able to meet the goal by June this year. "My ministry is working closely with the industry to ensure that we produce a PC for less than Rs 10,000, so as to make it accessible to the less privileged sections of the society. We are in close talks with Intel and Microsoft in this regard. We are trying to fit a modem into it. The PC should be ready for launch in June this year," he said. The Government had last year announced plans to make computers affordable to common man. Though personal computer prices have come down with rising demands from the IT, ITES, banking and finance industry, computers are still expensive and out of bounds for the common man.
